UX or writing for the web

Have you ever wondered why when you buy something on the internet you know exactly what to do? Who taught us that if you click on the logo of a website you go back to the home page?

Many elements of a website have certain functions that if we change would confuse the user, however, everything that can be found on a website, application, newsletter, mail, … is studied and analyzed to help the user to meet their goals.

If we analyze this in depth, we discover that there are two fundamental concepts, UX (User Experience) and UI (User Interface) that, although they have similar names are completely different. But what are they exactly?

As a quick and simple explanation we could say that UX writers are the writers of digital products and services. However, the concept is much broader as it involves more elements than just writing.

While UI Designers aim to guide the user through the web during the time they use it in a simple and intuitive way, even if it is the first time the user enters the web.

Both develop independent functions, but they must complement each other to achieve an adequate result.

For example, if our company has a newsletter and we want users to subscribe to it, we will have to think about the best way to do it. The easiest way is to add a block on the web so that all users can see it and subscribe. But the process does not end there.

The UX writer must write the subscription messages, subscription confirmation messages, error messages, a confirmation email if there is one, … While the UI Designer must design it with the right colors, size and typography, and check that it works correctly.

Although it may seem simple, this process takes a lot of time as it goes through several phases. First you have to think about its design, then test it and analyze if it works and fulfills the established functions. If it doesn’t, you have to go back to the beginning to start over and correct it. Finally, it must be kept up to date if necessary.

On the other hand, both must follow certain premises or established guidelines to achieve an adequate and functional work. But above all, we must remember that working together strengthens the digital strategy and improves the user experience so that they return to our website.
