Exploring the creative process behind a publication
In the complex world of content creation, every publication is the result of a very meticulous journey which covers from the conception of the idea to its diffusion.
Everything starts with the creation of the cover, reflexing the association’s identity. This first impression has to include the logo, the corporative colors and the title of the publication. After that, it’s time to develop the initial mockups to preview how we will see the publication, whether it is printed or in digital format.
Those initial mockups allow us to implement some adjustments before continuing with the design process.
Keeping the cover and the mockups in mind, the next step is to design the banners (in different proportions) to announce on the website, ensuring the visual coherence. This creates the visual basis that will impact the audience.
Simultaneously, the content takes form through investigation and writing. Once it is finished, it is time for the layout, creating a some pre designs of the interior pages. This process guarantees an atractive and coherent presentation of the content.
The magic of the infography
In the middle of the layout, the infographics thar transforme complex ideas into simpler graphic representations are incorporated. This graphic tools add an extra informative value, turning the publication into an accesible and attractive document.
Once the layout is finished, it’s time por an exhaustive revision with all the persons involved in the project. With their approval, PDFs are generated and, with the table of content and the spine design, are sent to print for the physical production of the publication.
During the layout phase, optimal photos are integrated: 300 PPI resolution, specific dimensions and controlled file size. The retouch done in the images includes color correction, exposure adjustments and removal of imperfections.
After fixing possible technical errors, the next review is done in the office, with the printed material. Before distributing, it is moment to evaluate the quality of printing, page trimming and other details.
Beyond the paper: Difussion strategies
Having the publication in the office, the next step is to create difussion resources, like the mockups that include not only the cover but also the inside pages. Also, a few banners for the webpage are necessary, to maximize the online presence.
At the same time, we need to create a printed flyer with key information and contact details, apart from an educational video, giving a dynamic and attractive view of the publication content. This helps and eases the task to share it in different channels.
Continuing with the design process, to establish a narrative structure for the next creative step, a script is developed. The storyboard captures the visual essence of the script, guiding the creation of a comic that brings the narrative to life. Simultaneously, and to highlight the key aspects, we need to prepare a PowerPoint; it will be used to create the educational vídeo mentioned before.
This intrincated process ensures the quality of the publication, but also boosts its digital presence. From the conception to the diffusion, each step helps to create a complete and effective piece.
